In Perspective

The goal of spiritual formation at the Center for Congregational Health, Inc.® is to help individuals and congregations deepen faith and further spiritual growth. Spiritual formation creates engaging and growing relationships with God, self and others.

Our philosophy is that individuals and faith communities can utilize spiritual disciplines to build a spiritually mature congregation able to live out its calling. Consultants from the Center help faith communities bring timeless spiritual practices to ordinary life in practical and useful ways both inside and outside the church.

The Center’s approach to spiritual formation helps both individuals and congregations integrate faith-building practices for transformed lives. It is based upon the ancient spiritual practices of

  • Prayer
  • Simplicity
  • Fasting
  • Solitude
  • Confession
  • Worship
  • Sacraments
  • Sabbath-keeping
  • Works of compassion
We offer several different resources including
  • Training specifically for clergy (Pastor as Spiritual Guide)
  • Training for laity (Congregational Leaders as Spiritual Guides)
  • Retreats for vocation and call discernment
  • Prayer retreats
  • One on one coaching focused on spiritual formation
  • Congregational spiritual formation retreats
  • Retreats for teaching and learning ancient spiritual practices for individual growth and congregational life.
